Everywhere, there are people who dream about making a difference –whether it’s for a child, family, community, country, or the world. Care4Kids Indonesia (C4KI) and Tulong sa Kapwa Kapatid Philipines (2KK) are two groups of young and committed volunteers who want to make this dream a reality.
Formed in 2003, 2KK (www.kapwakapatid.org) believes that through acts of kindness, no matter how small, great and lasting changes can be made. 2KK is a community of volunteers working together to empower the underprivileged Filipino youth by providing opportunities for education through scholarship, mentorship and tutorials. Its mission is to create sustainable programs that faithfully respond to the learning needs of the under privileged Filipino youth.
Care4Kids Indonesia (www.care4kidsindonesia.org) was founded in 2009 by a group of friends in Melbourne deciding to give back and help Indonesian kids who are in need. Their vision is to help build a brighter future for Indonesia that is strongly based on the pillars of education. Their mission is to help provide every child in Indonesia entitlement to the basic right of education.
Our groups crossed paths in Melbourne early June and we immediately realized that we had the same vision for assisting those who are less fortunate through education. We share the goal of making it possible for the underprivileged yet deserving youth of today to receive the education they need for a better life and brighter future and, importantly, to inspire them to give back to their community. As a result of the meeting we decided to unite for a purpose, pulling all of our resources together and partnering up to create fundraising events for both of our organizations. This is only the beginning of what the youth can achieve when we work together.
We will be doing several fundraising events such as Camberwell market, busking, bingo night as well as selling raffle tickets with many great prizes. All of this will culminate with a fun run event on September 28, 2014 titled ‘Unity for Purpose: Run-a-thon for Education’. On this day we will also announce the winners of the raffle prizes.
