Community groups are being encouraged to support a Harmony Day event, as a part of Australia’s official celebration of our strong multicultural society.
Held on 21 March, Harmony Day is a celebration of what it means to live in a strong multicultural country, like Australia.
Thousands of events will be held to honour our shared values of respect, equality and freedom between our different cultures.
Minister for Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs, Hon Alan Tudge MP, said that more than 3,500 events were held around the country last year.
These events ranged range from small corporate morning teas, to school cultural dress up days and large sporting events.
“Harmony Day celebrates Australia’s modern multicultural character by encouraging people to come together with friends, family and our communities to share our cultural heritage and traditions,” Mr Tudge said.
“We are one of the most culturally diverse nations in the world, with almost half of all Australians either born overseas or who have at least one parent who was.
“I encourage everyone to get involved and register an event.”
